Following the increasing number of COVID-19 cases, on 29 March the Government of Lao PDR formally announced nation-wide lockdown. Despite the still limited number of COVID-19 cases, the outbreak in the region has impacted trade, construction and tourism and has therefore a significant effect on the economy. 加速q器免费

The 10th anniversary of the entry into force of the Convention on Cluster Munitions (CCM)

The CCM holds a particular importance for Lao PDR, being the second signatory to the CCM in December 2008, with Prime Minister Sisoulith, who was the Foreign Minister at the time, signing on behalf of the state. Lao PDR has taken its role as State Party very seriously and successfully hosted the first ever Meeting of State Parties in Vientiane, November 2010. Both the Vientiane Declaration and the Vientiane Action Plan were adopted at this meeting. The latter was instrumental in setting out concrete and measurable steps, actions and targets aimed to be completed within specific time frames over the next five-year period, until the Dubrovnik Action Plan was adopted.Read more

Ambassador of Turkey to Lao PDR, H.E. Mr. Ahmet Idem Akay today paid a courtesy visit to the newly-appointed Vice Minister of Labour and Social Welfare, H.E. Mr. Padermphone Sonthany, together with United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) senior representatives, including the Resident Representative, Ms. Ricarda Rieger, to discuss the efforts of the ongoing project, generously supported by the Government of Turkey through the organization.Read more

Step into the reality of a UXO clearance team

Sounds of an aircraft. A white screen. Bombs floating down to earth around a hand-drawn image of a tree. The tree and the surrounding hills are gaining in colour, slowly coming alive with people, and we are on top of a breezy hill, in North-Eastern Laos, Xieng Khouang Province. The tree is in front of us, but as we turn, we hear the whistling sound of metal detectors and find ourselves in the midst of a team of UXO clearance technicians. UXO. Unexploded ordnance. They are all around us.
